Arizona Humanities Lecture: The Lives and Rights of Animals in History and Literature

Lisa Barca, PhD., lecturer and Honors Faculty Fellow at Arizona State University, will discuss the multicultural and historical perspectives on the moral status of animals.  She will present on the views of the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras, the Roman poet Ovid, Buddhist teachings on animals, first-wave feminists such as Harriet Beecher Stowe and Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and contemporary thinkers Temple Grandin and Carol Adams.  Presented with funding from the Friends of the Prescott Public Library.
