Winter Storm Update Morning January 17, 2023

Good morning all,

At this time all City streets are substantially clear and completely passable. There are some local residential streets in the higher elevation neighborhoods that may still have some wet slushy snow on them, and crews are working to clear those streets.

Temperatures are dropping very rapidly this morning, and icy road conditions are developing quickly. Crews are treating these areas now and will continue to monitor and treat icy spots as needed throughout the morning.

If you must travel this morning please be aware, and prepared for icy winter driving conditions throughout the City.

As always we ask that you allow for plenty of extra time to arrive to your destination, reduce your speed slowly when approaching intersections, and allow for extra braking distance.

When approaching a plow truck that is applying material to the roadway, stay at least 100 feet behind it to help avoid the cinders hitting your vehicle. As we talked about in yesterday’s updates, low water crossings, creeks and washes continue to run full, so please do not cross any creek, or wash for any reason!!

Current weather forecasts indicate some light snow accumulations throughout the day, and well into the night tonight. We remain under a Winter Weather Warning until 11:00 p.m. tonight. Low temperatures are forecast to dip into the low 20’s tonight, so hazardous winter driving conditions will persist well into Wednesday morning.

Thank you, and have a safe day.

Brian Scott, Street Maintenance Superintendent
