Remembrance Planned for Granite Mountain Hotshots at Courthouse Plaza June 30
On June 30, 2017, the City of Prescott and Yavapai County will remember the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who perished in a wildland fire outside of Yarnell on June 30, 2013.
City of Prescott and Yavapai County will honor the hotshots with a ringing of the Courthouse bells 19 times at exactly 4:42 p.m. followed by a moment of silence.
No formal ceremony is planned, but attendees are encouraged to assemble on the SOUTH side of the Plaza to hear the bells. The City will also place a commemorative sign in the location of the planned permanent memorial site, on the southeast corner of the Courthouse Plaza.
“We can never say or do enough to show our gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice,” said Prescott Fire Chief Dennis Light. “We believe this simple yet meaningful remembrance is an appropriate way to do so.”
