Public Arguments For or Against Now Being Accepted For Sales Tax Ballot Issues

The Prescott City Clerk’s Office is accepting for/against arguments for the August 25, 2015, Special Election at which the following ballot measures will be presented. Deadline to file arguments is May 27, 2015, at 5:00 p.m.

1) Proposed question to adopt a transaction privilege (sales) tax of fifty-five one-hundredths of one percent (0.55%), the restricted revenue from which shall be dedicated to the payment or funding of payment of the unfunded obligations of the City to the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement Systems, taking effect on January 1, 2016, and continuing until the unfunded obligations of the City to the Systems are paid in full, including any associated financing of said obligations, but ending not later than December 31, 2035.

2) Proposed question of whether to repeal the transaction privilege tax of three-fourths of one percent (3/4%) dedicated to streets and roads for a term of twenty (20) years beginning January 1, 2016, and in lieu thereof adopt a one percent (1%) transaction privilege tax dedicated to streets and roads for a term of twenty (20) years beginning January 1, 2016, the proceeds of which are to be used for the costs of planning, design, right-of-way acquisition, and improvements, and other costs associated with the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of City streets, highways, alleys, and roadways; including but not limited to curbs, gutters, drainage, bridges, sidewalks, shoulders, and medians.

3) Proposed question to adopt a transaction privilege tax of eight one-hundredths of one percent (0.08%), the revenue of which shall be dedicated to the acquisition, maintenance, and improvement of open space by the City, with not more than 50% of the accumulated revenue from said tax to be used for maintenance and improvements, to take effect on January 1, 2016, and remain in effect until December 31, 2035.

4) Proposed question to ratify the 2015 Prescott General Plan.

Arguments will be accepted in the City Clerk’s Office, 201 South Cortez, Prescott, Arizona, until May 27, 2015, at 5:00 p.m. Arguments filed shall not exceed three hundred (300) words in length, shall be accompanied by a $100.00 deposit, and shall include the notarized signature(s) of those providing the arguments.
