Prescott Firefighters Rescue Man Rappelling in the Dells

A man rappelling in the area had to be rescued when he discovered he didn’t have have enough rope to complete his descent.

Crews from the Prescott and Central Yavapai fire departments responded to the incident in the Granite Dells near Prescott around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday.

Two engines from Prescott Fire, an engine from Central Yavapai Fire, Battalion Chiefs from both departments, and the team’s technical rescue support vehicle all responded to the incident.

The firefighter and victim were then lowered to the ground. The man was uninjured and refused any medical treatment. The rescue took about two hours.

Parties engaging in the sport need to make sure they have the necessary equipment to perform the activity safely. Thorough preparation and familiarity with the equipment are a must. It is also helpful to participate with others so that members can seek out assistance if a mishap occurs.
