Elisabeth Ruffner Induction to the Arizona Women's Hall of Fame
On March 12, 2015, two living women, Elisabeth Ruffner and Sandra Day O'Connor, will be inducted into the Arizona Women Hall of Fame in Tempe, Arizona. These Living Legacy inductees have been chosen from a list of exceptional women who inspire and have reached the highest levels of professional accomplishments in their chosen endeavors.
The induction ceremony will take place at the Arizona Historical Society Museum in Tempe, Arizona. For those who would like to attend the induction ceremony in Tempe but don't wish to drive, the Prescott Chamber of Commerce has chartered a bus that will leave Prescott at approximately 12:00 pm. The ceremony starts at 3:00 p.m. and concludes by 5:00 p.m. The bus will return to Prescott immediately following the ceremony. There is a cost of $30 per person to ride the bus. A musical celebration and tribute will be sponsored by The Friends of Elisabeth Ruffner and Prescott Area Shelter Services on Thursday March 19th at the Elks Theatre at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchase by calling the Elks Theatre at 928-777-1370 or online
Elisabeth Ruffner has been involved in the creation of a number of arts groups including The Yavapai Symphony Association, Yavapai Heritage Foundation, Prescott Area Arts & Humanities Council, The Friends of Prescott Public Library, The Friends of Arizona Highways Magazine, and The Arizona Preservation Foundation. She has received a Trustee of the Year Award from The American Library Association, a Citation for Historic Preservation national service from the Secretary of the Interior, the Al Merito Award, and the History Maker Award from the Arizona Historical Society, The Sharlot Hall Museum Award, A Culturekeeper Award from State Historian Marshall Trimble in collaboration with the Westin Kierland hotel company, the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation and the Governor's Award for individual achievement in promoting the arts and culture in Arizona and from the City of Prescott for founding the Elks Opera House Foundation acting as capital campaign chairman for the restoration of The Elks Opera House.
