ASU Doctoral Candidate Researching Wildfire Risk Reduction Actions

Homeowners in the Prescott area may receive mail from Arizona State University (ASU) concerning a regional study of homeowners' wildfire risk reduction actions on their properties. The study is focused on property located within the Wildland-Urban Interface, and is designed to learn more about what influences homeowners to take action in protecting life and property from wildfire. A random sample of homeowners was selected to receive a questionnaire that should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Participation is voluntary, but input is critical. All perspectives are needed so the data will accurately represent the opinions of area residents.

Surveys will be mailed to select households beginning August 3rd, with a second mailing to non-respondents on August 22, 2016. The study has been reviewed and approved by the Arizona State University Institutional Review Board (IRB), and is being conducted in cooperation with the Prescott Area Wildland Urban Interface Commission (PAWUIC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), United Services Automobile Association, and ASU. Survey results are anticipated by the end of 2016, and the City of Prescott and PAWUIC intend to use the results to further their collaborative efforts of effective fuels mitigation. Recipients of the survey are encouraged to take the time to complete the questionnaire, which will result in data that will better inform future fuels mitigation and education efforts.
