Prescott Hires Michael Lamar as New City Manager

Michael Lamar, presently County Manager for Morgan County, Georgia, has accepted the position of City Manager for the City of Prescott, following a national recruitment that attracted 58 applicants.

Mr. Lamar has more than 16 years of professional local government experience as the top appointed official in both a city and a county. He has served as County Manager in Morgan County, Georgia, for the past 11 years, preceded by 6 years as the City Manager of Trenton, Florida. Throughout his career, Lamar has focused on service improvements, citizen outreach, financial management, and economic development. Mr. Lamar is credentialed by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), and holds a master’s degree in public administration, and bachelor of arts in political science, from the Universities of Georgia and Florida, respectively.

“Michael impressed the City Council with his perspective and successes in balancing growth and development with quality of life, and will bring new energy to the position of City Manager,” commented Harry Oberg, Mayor. “He was the top choice of the candidate evaluation panels, and will be valuable to the community both as a visionary leader and stabilizing presence to our talented City workforce. The City Council is looking forward to working with him as we continue to tackle the issues important to Prescott.”

“I could not be more excited about the opportunity to work for the City of Prescott. After spending the latter part of last week interacting with the City Council, leadership staff, and community members, I am 100% convinced this is the right move for me professionally.” said Lamar. He went on to say that “on a personal level, my wife and I are elated about the prospect of living and raising our daughter in Prescott; in fact, we can’t wait to get out there and begin our new lives in your beautiful community.”

Mr. Lamar anticipates starting work at the City of Prescott before the end of October.
