The Office of the Secretary of Defense, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) honored the City of Prescott on January 30 as one its top 30 finalists for the 2013 Freedom Award. The ESGR Freedom award is the Department of Defense's highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.
The City of Prescott was selected as a top 30 finalist out of a pool of 2,899 nominations by a review board comprised of military and civilian leaders.
"This is a tremendous honor for the City of Prescott to be recognized as a finalist from such a large pool of nominations," said Mayor Marlin Kuykendall. "The ESGR should be commended for their extraordinary efforts to encourage employers to provide extra support to the men and women in the military for sacrifices they make on their behalf."
About ESGR and the Freedom Award: The Freedom Award was instituted in 1996 under the auspices of ESGR to recognize exceptional support from the employer community. In the years since, 175 employers have been honored with the award. ESGR develops and maintains employer support for Guard and Reserve service. It advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
