City of Prescott to Update Development Fees

Thursday, October 17, 2013

The City of Prescott Community Development Department will be performing a detailed evaluation and update of its development fees and application process for competitiveness and comparability with similar sized cities and towns in Arizona and the region. The study will include a detailed assessment of various development related applications, personnel costs to process applications, as well as other costs such as materials and equipment.

The study, to begin immediately, is expected to be completed by the end of the calendar year. The study results and recommendations will be forwarded to the City Council in early 2014 for consideration. In order to treat applicants fairly, if the study results in any fee reductions, those who submitted applications on or after October 1, 2013, may be rebated all or part of the difference between the current and the new fees.

"It is important for the City of Prescott to periodically evaluate and update development fees and the application process to ensure they are competitive and commensurate with prevailing government practices," said City Manager Craig McConnell. "In the aftermath of the recession and slow recovery, this is an appropriate time for this evaluation."

Letters are being sent to Prescott area builders and developers to inform them of the update and the process moving forward. There will be ample opportunity for comment and suggestions at public meetings once the study is complete.
