PRESCOTT, AZ (March 26, 2013) - Prescott was fortunate to play host to Andreas and Silvia Huke and Mayor Volkmar and Kerstin Kunze as representatives from the City of Prescott's Sister City Zeitz, Germany. Arriving on March 4, tours covered the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Verde Valley wineries and tasting rooms, and Smoki and Sharlot Hall museums in Prescott, and concluded on March 10.
The City's approach to the Sister City Program emphasizes development of "People-to-People" private sector participation rather than reliance upon government resources. Businesses and venues who sponsored the trip include: Bearizona, the Best Western Squire Inn, the City of Cottonwood, Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, The Eagles Club of Prescott, El Gato Azul, Matt's Saloon, Nextage Realty of Prescott, Papillion Grand Canyon Helicopter, Patriot Disposal, Pink Jeep Tours, Prescott Backcountry Tours, Prescott Brewing Company, The Prescott Regulators & their Shady Ladies, Prescott Resort, Prescott Western Heritage Foundation, Raskin's Jewelers, Smoki Museum, SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn by Marriott, Tempe Mission Palms, and Sandy Griffis, Executive Director of Yavapai County Contractors Association. Margo Christensen, Chair of the Zeitz Sister City Committee commented, "Sandy's departing gifts to Silvia and Kerstin were several pieces of Native American jewelry from her mother's collection; a true testament of the sincerity and friendship bond that we have established between our two communities."
In addition to Zeitz, Germany, the City of Prescott currently has Sister City relationships with Suchitoto, El Salvador, and Caborca, Mexico. The City of Prescott entered into the "People-to-People Program" Sister City relationship with Zeitz on February 26 of this year.
