City reports increases in taxable activity, building fees

The City of Prescott has entered its new fiscal year with positive momentum. According to the City of Prescott's Budget & Finance Department, total taxable activity for fiscal year 2012 (ending June 30), increased 6.27% over the prior year.

The most notable increases are in the industries of advertising at 22.04%, construction at 13.31%, and hotel/motel at 8.73%. "Retail sales are also showing an increase of 7.28%, says budget & finance director, Mark Woodfill. "Overall, the numbers indicate improvement over FY 2011 taxable activity."

Building Activity Increases

The City's Building/Permit Division reports that fees from building permits are up over $1 million from the prior fiscal year with a sizeable uptick in new single family residence construction activity. In fiscal year 2012, 133 permits were issued for the building of new single family residences compared to 63 during the prior year.

Tourism Activity

Tourism director Don Prince reports that bed tax collections for May were up 6% over last year and lodging occupancy was up 6.8%. "Over the past 12 months," adds Prince, "there has been an overall increase in occupancy of 4.9%."

Antelope Hills Golf

Antelope Hills Golf has completed its busiest month of the year with the 53rd Annual Father-Son Tournament. The annual event attracted more than 450 players and their families, says GM Mack McCarley. "The economic impact of this event cannot be overlooked as it brings in over $100,000 in revenue to the golf operation, not counting what is spent in the community."
