The Elks Opera House was the venue for yesterday's Prescott City Council Workshop. Mayor Kuykendall, council members, City Manager Steve Norwood, foundation representatives, and press were given a restoration progress tour by Bill Otwell, the architectural designer who's firm is overseeing the project.

Among the highlights: the installation of opera boxes, explanation of hand carved corbels and plaster reliefs, beginning application of original paint colors and stencil designs, and a preview of the proposed marquee design.

The goal of the City of Prescott and the Opera House Foundation is to restore the Elks theater to its "original grandeur."

According to Administrative Services Director Mic Fenech, the Elks will play host to a red carpet Grand Opening fundraiser on July 24, 2010.
