PPL What's New in Elder Care!
Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Prescott Public Library 215 E. Goodwin Street, Prescott, AZ 86303
Meet local author Cynthia Loucks, an instructor at Yavapai College in the Department of Psychology. She has written an award-winning and critically acclaimed non-fiction book: But This Is My Mother! The Plight of Our Elders in American Nursing Homes (2000) published by Vanderwyk & Burnham. Her book received two 2001 A Book of the Year awards from the American Journal of Nursing in Consumer Health (first place) and Public Interest (honorable mention). Loucks says, "Although nursing homes in many parts of the country are undergoing positive changes that improve the life of their residents, they are still a long way from being places that most of us would want to wind up, and yet statistically many of us can still expect to end our days in these facilities." She will talk about her experiences in the search for quality care for her elderly mother. There will be time for questions and autographs at the end of the presentation.
