Memorial Day observance in the historic Citizens Cemetery includes patriotic speeches by local officials and dignitaries; Color Guard - American Legion Post 6; Music by the Veterans Memorial Pipers Corp and Prescott Brass ensemble; Presentation of flags by the Camp Verde Cavalry and the Arizona Rough Riders; Volley and Echo Taps by American Legion Post 6. The historic Citizens Cemetery was founded in 1864 and contains the graves of more than 3,000 Yavapai County pioneers. Veterans of numerous wars, including the Civil War, are interred in the cemetery. On Memorial Day we honor all of the veterans of the United States, living and dead. This year the YCA is also honoring and acknowledging the Sesquicentennial of Citizens Cemetery, Ft. Whipple and the founding of Prescott. Parking available in nearby Yavapai College parking lots. Please bring a chair for your own comfort.
