Ordnance: Bullets, Bayonets & Firearms
Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Fort Whipple Museum, Bob Stump VA Medical Center
Join us in celebration of Fort Whipple's 150th anniversary as we begin the Frontier Arizona Experience for 2013. This first program in the series will include an impressive display of firearms and other supplies soldiers at the fort would have used a century and a half ago. Included in the exhibit will be upwards of three Gatling guns, patented in 1861 as a means to aid and end the Civil War. The festivities will also include the unveiling of sculptor Dave Venell's bronze statue of a First California Volunteer. The statue represents the thousands of volunteers who not only helped establish Fort Whipple but also shaped the Arizona frontier. This event is free and open to the public.
