“THROUGH THE VALLEY WHERE MAN WAS BORN!
Comments by dventurer Roy Smith
"This presentation is about a six hundred mile, two month-long journey by rafts down the Omo River in Ethiopia from its headwaters to Lake Turkana in Northern Kenya.
Supported by National Geographic, the World Wildlife Fund and Yale University, the expedition had scientific goals that were constantly interrupted and impeded by daily attacks from hippos.
One of the expedition rafts was attacked and sunk by a large Nile Crocodile.
One member was electrocuted by an electric catfish and was unconscious for several minutes – this incident put a serious damper on our enthusiasm for fishing.
Expedition members trekked from the River to the summit of Mt Dimi where the Dimi people held us captive for three days. On the night of the third day we escaped by cutting a hole in the side of their hut.
This is an account of an extraordinary journey into a fast vanishing wild region of Africa."
The meeting begins at 7:00 PM, refreshments are served following the presentation and all PAS meetings are FREE and open to the public.
