Painting Expressively with Color Using Palette Knife and Large Brush Workshop

Monday, March 18 @ 9:00 am

Learn impressionistic oil painting techniques with accomplished Arizona landscape artist Russell Johnson during a two-day workshop. The goal of this workshop is to portray a visual experience of nature focusing on how it felt to witness nature’s splendor. This will be done through simplification of a composition, seeing value of colors appropriately, using color expressively, and applying paint texturally. Russell paints almost primarily with a palette knife, enjoying the sculptural qualities it produces. The student is welcome to learn palette knife painting or use a large brush to energetically represent the natural landscape. The two day workshop will consist of sketching from photographs, color mixing, setting up the painting, and finally, completing the painting. Live demonstrations by Russell throughout the workshop!
